About the Collective
We are highly-trained Counsellors and Psychotherapists. We have come together to make our services available to a wider community of health providers, organisations and individuals. To see full details about each of us please click on the Members link.
Our aim is to help you find the practitioners who are the right fit for you or your organisation. We believe in excellence of service, combined with respect and support for our clients and each other. Each of our members has significant experience of working in the NHS and/or education, and has at least one reference from a colleague who is not a counsellor. We work as a team.
Every member belongs to a professional body and adheres to a clear code of ethics concerning ongoing training, insurance, confidentiality and supervision. The Collective is also insured as a Limited Liability Company.
Membership falls into 5 categories. There are:
- Designated Members, who are all Accredited Counsellors and/or Registered Psychotherapists. They meet regularly and form the Board of the Partnership.
- Members who are also Accredited Counsellors and/or Registered Psychotherapists
- Associate Members who belong to BACP or another equivalent professional organisation without accreditation.
- Trainee* members who are working towards their qualifications and meet all of the relevant criteria applying to qualified members
- Affiliated members who have valuable training and experience to offer to our community work, and are also required to meet all relevant criteria for membership.
This sign Δ next to a member's information means that they offer 'affordable counselling'.
*We now select some of the best emerging Psychotherapeutic Counsellors and Psychotherapists and facilitate arrangements between Trainees, Training Establishments, the Counsellors' Collective and appropriate host placements.
The Trainees
- These will all be people who satisfy us that they are adequately trained and ready to take on the challenges of placement (probably in a GP practice) through our selection process
- They will have their own personal indemnity insurance, enhanced DBS certificate (within 2 years) and belong to the Trainee section of UKCP, BACP, or equivalent professional body and therefore be bound by a solid code of ethical practice.
- We develop a '5-way' relationship to fully support trainees in their placements (the Counsellors' Collective, placement, trainee, tutor, supervisor).
- Selection takes place over two Zoom interviews (one involving role-play). At least 2 supervisors of trainees will be involved in the selection. A day of induction is offered to those trainees considered ready for placement. We seek to place successful trainees for 3 hours / week.
- Supervision must be provided by Supervisors who are Members of the Counsellors’ Collective – all of whom meet relevant, demanding criteria.
We offer innovative and inspiring events which contribute to the continual personal development of counsellors, psychotherapists and others working in the caring professions. Please go to our News and Events page for more information.
